Pages of possibility

Pages of possibility 1920 1280 Bec Seaton

Half of adults in the UK don’t regularly read for pleasure* and while the importance of reading is often highlighted in children, adults sometimes forget how powerful picking up a book can be – whether its for personal growth, relaxation, or gaining a deeper understanding of the world around them.

As a rule, I read every single day. Whether it’s just a few pages or an entire book, I always find time to dive into a story. Reading has become a constant in my life, a habit I squeeze in whenever and wherever I can – during my commute, before bed, or even during lazy weekends where I have been known to read multiple books in a single day. It is good for the soul!

A good book is something I treasure; I can sometimes get so engrossed that I have on occasion missed my stop at Liverpool Street to end up in Canary Wharf. I love the feeling of being transported to another world or era. When people tell me they don’t enjoy reading, I always encourage them to try a different author or genre. Books aren’t one size fits all, finding the right fit is key.

Books truly offer pages of possibility, serving as gateways to endless adventures. Every story has the power to broaden our horizons, foster empathy, and spark curiosity. In a boundless universe of books, there is always something new to discover.

However, the benefit of reading books goes beyond just enjoyment. It sharpens the mind, enhances focus, concentration and critical thinking skills while expanding vocabulary and improving communication. Books are powerful tools for stress relief, an escape from the demands of daily life. The act of reading enriches our lives in countless ways.

This year, let’s rekindle the joy of reading and remind ourselves why it is never too late to embrace the habit.
