Tokio Marine Kiln today announces the appointment of Liam Burke, ACII to its Life Sciences division as underwriter, effective immediately.
Burke will be second in seniority to TMK’s head of life sciences, Kirsten Shastri, who he will report to. He joins from Beazley, where he served as a US specialty programmes underwriter, a complex multiclass role.
At TMK he will be responsible for the growth and development of its globally available (ex-US) IntelliMed product, which offers specialist and bespoke coverage for life sciences risks ranging from traditional medical devices, pharmaceuticals and clinical trials through to novel innovations including smart medtech products, telemedicine and health apps.
Shastri said: “TMK aspires to be the leading market for life sciences at Lloyd’s. Liam’s appointment is a signal of that intent and his broad, specialty market experience and strong personal interest in health, fitness and nutrition will help support it. I am delighted to welcome him to the team and look forward to working with him to further develop IntelliMed to meet the needs of the life sciences community, one of the world’s most innovative and fast-evolving sectors.”
Burke’s appointment follows several recent significant hires and promotions at TMK including Benjamin Goldsmith as a political violence underwriter, Sam Bye as cyber underwriter, Asia Pacific, Aoife Woulfe, head of delegated cyber, Paul Gooch, divisional head of large account cyber, Cindy Gunawan, special risks underwriter, Nomdo Kruis, aviation underwriter, Timothy Wills, marine underwriter and property underwriters David Ford and Ain Hamid.
